Cooking tips for beginners (I)

Here are a few easy tips to make your cooking experience more enjoyable if you’re not very good at it.

Make sure your artichokes stay green by cutting them and putting them in a bowl with cold water and a few sprigs of fresh parsley.

Peel tomatoes easily by slicing a shallow X at the base with a knife. Put the tomatoes in a pot of boiling water. When they begin to wrinkle, drain them and put them in a bowl with very cold water.


 

Do you want to slice onions without crying like a baby? Place them in the fridge an hour before slicing, or slice them in the sink under a running tap. And always use a sharp knife.

 

Fluffy white rice: Sauté the rice in a bit of oil over medium-high heat before boiling. Then add 2 and a half cups of water for every cup of rice. When it begins to boil, reduce to medium heat and cook for 20 minutes.

Not sure whether the eggs are fresh? Put them in a bowl of water; if they sink to the bottom they’re fresh, but if they float you’d better throw them away!


 

Frying pans that stick? Heat the frying pan, put in a handful of salt and cover with a lid until the salt is dark. Then wipe with a clean cloth and you’re done!
